Why We Are Yet To Release 2023 UTME Results- JAMB Registrar

The Registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-shaq Oloyede has given reason why the Board is yet to release conducted results from the ongoing 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Oloyede also disclosed that 20 Computer Based-Test (CBT) centers found wanting nationwide would be sanctioned for failure to comply with the guidelines governing the conduct of the UTME.

The JAMB registrar stated this in Lagos while monitoring the ongoing 2023 UTME in some centers and described the conduct as smooth despite the initial hitches experienced.

According to JAMB, 1,595,779 candidates registered for the 2023 UTME and Lagos recorded the highest number of applicants of 270, 573. The exam is been written in 708 centers nationwide.

He said before JAMB used to release the UTME results in batches each day of the exam as was done in 2021 and 2022 after analysing candidates performance for the day.

Oloyede explained that the nationwide delay experienced by candidates on Friday morning was caused by human error as a result the exam started one hour late.

He disclosed that as at Friday 1.5million candidates had taken the exam while 250,000 remaining applicants would write between Saturday, April 29th to May 3.

The JAMB also confirmed that examination malpractice has reduced drastically because of measures introduced to check and tackle the menace.

He added: The level of examination malpractice has gone down. The candidates and parents have realized the danger of engaging in examination malpractice. Even in Lagos, it is minimal. We have better devices now to monitor the UTME. The CBT operators have learnt their lessons.

“The CBT centers have improved and the level of non-compliance has also reduced. The UTME was delayed on Friday for one hour nationwide due to human error.”

On why the Board has not released results since the UTME started in April, Oloyede said it was based on experts advice that the Board was doing the wrong thing of releasing results on a daily basis, which would not capture the true performance of the candidates.

“This year, we will wait the end of the examination. We will analyse and calculate the mean. We will analyse the entire results to get the mean before releasing the results,” he stated.

JAMB 2023 UTME Results. How to Check

The long-awaited Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results for 2023 have been released in batches. This announcement was made by the Head, Public Affairs and Protocol, JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday, 30th April 2023 in Abuja.

For candidates who participated in the 2023 UTME, checking your result has been made easy by JAMB. According to Dr Fabian Benjamin, candidates can simply send UTMERESULT to 55019 using the same phone number they used for registration, and their result will be sent to them via text message.

It is important to note that this is the only official method of checking the 2023 UTME results for now, as JAMB has not uploaded the results on its website. As always, fraudsters may attempt to mislead unsuspecting candidates by providing false instructions on how to check their results. Therefore, JAMB has warned all candidates to ignore such messages and follow the official method of checking their results.

In addition to providing a user-friendly and simplified process for checking UTME results, JAMB’s decision to release results via text message aims to prevent unscrupulous Cybercafes and Business Centres from exploiting hapless candidates.

The 2023 UTME, which began on Tuesday, 25th April 2023, marked the beginning of another academic journey for thousands of Nigerian youths seeking admission into tertiary institutions. The release of the results now gives them a clear picture of their chances of securing admission into their desired courses and institutions.

Candidates are advised to exercise patience while awaiting their results as the process may take a while due to the high number of candidates who participated in the examination. We wish all candidates success in their academic pursuits.

BREAKING: Buhari approves postponement of 2023 census

President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has approved the postponement of the 2023 Population and Housing Census, earlier scheduled for May 3-7 2023, to a date to be determined by the incoming administration.

The President gave the approval after meeting with some members of the Federal Executive Council and the Chairman of the National Population Commission, Nasir Isa-Kwarra, and his team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday, April 28, 2023.

This is contained in a press statement signed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, and released Saturday morning.

“In arriving at the decision to postpone the census,” the statement says, “the meeting reiterated the critical need for the conduct of a Population and Housing Census, 17 years after the last census, to collect up-to-date data that will drive the developmental goals of the country and improve the living standard of the Nigerian people.”

Mohammed quoted Buhari as saying that appreciable progress had been made in the preparation for and implementation of the now postponed census, adding that the President commended the methodology being put in place by the NPC to conduct accurate and reliable census.

“The President noted that with the completion of the Enumeration Area Demarcation of the country, conduct of first and second pre-tests, the recruitment and training of ad hoc workers, procurement of Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and ICT infrastructures, appreciable progress has been made in the implementation of the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

“He also commended the methodology being put in place by the Commission to conduct accurate and reliable Census, especially the massive deployment of technology that is capable of delivering world class Census and laying a sustainable basis for future censuses."

The statement added, “The President further directed the Commission to continue with preparations for the conduct of the 2023 Population and Housing Census in order to sustain the gains already recorded and provide the basis for the incoming administration to consolidate these achievements.”

“The meeting was attended by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami; the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed; the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; the Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, Mr Clem Agba and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha,” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, The PUNCH had earlier reported that there were indications that the 2023 census would be postponed. There have been calls from some quarters for the postponement of the census for reasons ranging from inadequate preparation, lack of funds, lack of training of supervisors for the exercise, credibility doubts raised by its timing, to security concerns, among other things.

UPDATE ON UNILAG 2022/2023 ADMISSION

This is to notify candidates seeking admission into the University of Lagos, as well as members of the University Community and general public that the 2022/2023 Admission Exercise has closed.

However, it has been observed that some candidates who were offered admission into programmes different from their original choice of programmes are yet to accept the transfer offers to the new programmes. Similarly, some candidates are slow to accept the transfer offers (accepting the transfer offers at their leisure), thereby lingering their admission process. Consequently, the Admission Office is unable to propose the admission of these candidates on JAMB CAPS.

Please note that:

1. The Admission Office will continue to propose on JAMB CAPS, the admission of candidates who accept the transfer offers of new programmes until the deadline of Friday, May 12, 2023.

2. The admission of candidates who accept the transfer offer after the deadline will not be proposed, hence forfeiture of their admission.

2023 UTME: Poor Network, Power Failure Frustrate Candidates As JAMB Discloses Solutions To Affected Candidates

Network and power failure were among the challenges some candidates for the Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) experienced in parts of Rivers State, yesterday.

Some of the students (candidates) disclosed that unstable network, in particular, delayed the commencement of the examination and affected the stopping time.

One of the candidates, who simply gave his name as Godson, said his centre was at Maranntha and Associate, Elelenwo, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

He disclosed that, though he was able to attempt all the questions, the system (laptop) he used delayed his stay in the examination hall.

According to him, there was also the problem of thumb-printing caused by ineffective network and poor coordination.

It was also the same unfavourable story at the Churchill Universal Basic School UTME centre, according to one of the candidates, Charles Michael.

He said: “My examination was 9:30am. But, we didn’t enter early because those for the 6:30am examination did not finish early. We started very late. Some people’s laptops worked but very slowly. Some, their own systems were not stable. And they did not write. They were confused. But, I thank God for seeing me through.”

Meanwhile, JAMB is already taking steps to ensure seamless Conduct of the examination. Candidates who were phased with technical hitches have been instructed to reprint new registration slip and have their exams rescheduled, plans to reschedule the examination for those yet to see changes in their slip are into consideration.

However, many of the candidates scheduled for Tuesday, April 25, 2013, who could not write due system failure, were still waiting for JAMB to open the portal to reprint their rescheduled centres.

Earlier on, yesterday, some of the candidates for Tuesday, May 25 examination, at State School II, Elele, in Ikwerre Local Government Area, said they received a text message from JAMB that the portal would be opened at 6pm.

At the time (6:40pm) of filing this report, some of the candidates said they were at business centres and there was no new information concerning a rescheduled date for the examination.
