FG Declares Wednesday September 27 Public Holiday

 The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, September 27, 2023 as public holiday in commemoration of Eil-ul- Maulid celebration.



The celebration signifies the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).


In a statement which the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Oluwatoyin Akinlade, issued on his behalf, Minister of Interior, Hon Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulated Muslims for witnessing this year’s occasion.


He also admonished them to imbibe the spirit of love, patience, tolerance and perseverance which are deep spiritual virtues that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him ) exemplified.


The Minister urged youths to embrace hard work and peaceful dispositions to fellow citizens irrespective of faith, ideology, social class and ethnicity.

UNILAG reduces fees, After meeting with NANS



The obligatory fees for new undergraduate students were reviewed from N126,325 to N116,325 for courses without Lab/Studio.


Following Thursday’s meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has announced a review of its new fees.


The management of the university led by its Vice-Chancellor, Folasade Ogunsola, met with the student leaders on Thursday. The students were led by the President of NANS, Usman Barambu, and the meeting was part of efforts to address the lingering crisis over the fees.


The university had increased the payable fees from N26,000 and about N76,000 to between N120,750 and N240,250 depending on the courses of study and year of admission.


However, in an official statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES Friday morning by the university’s spokesperson, Adejoke Alaga-Ibrahim, the institution announced the reduction of the obligatory fees for students, utility bills, convocation fees and others.

According to the statement, the utility charges for all categories of students have been reduced to N15,000 from N20,000 and convocation fees to be paid by all final-year students were reduced to N27,000 from N30,000.

Prospective candidates who wish to register for the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External,


are hereby informed that registration for the examination has commenced. The registration is both offline and online.


Prospective candidates should visit the Council’s website www.neco.gov.ng SSCE External link and register at any


time within the stipulated registration period. Candidates can create account, purchase registration quota and then


proceed to any reputable Cybercafé for biometric and completion of registration.


❖ Passport size photograph is required for the registration. The candidate’s passport size photograph should NOT



be more than SIX MONTHS old and must have white background. System Camera can also be used to snap the


passport size photograph at the point of registration as the case may be.

YABA COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY [YABATECH] RELEASES ND FULL TIME/B.SC DEGREE ADMISSION FORM FOR THE 2023/2024 ACADEMIC SESSION



Applications are hereby invited from interested 2023 UTME candidates who applied for admission into Yaba College of Technology, the best rated Polytechnic in Nigeria according to Webometric ranking for the sixth year running; for Full Time National Diploma (ND) and B.Sc (Edu.) in Technical Education programmes (100/200 Level) being run in affiliation with University of Nigeria (Nsukka). The application which is online will commence from Monday September 4, 2023 and close on Monday October 6, 2023.

 


ELIGIBILITY

The admission screening is open to candidates who chose Yaba College of Technology as their 1st Choice Institution and scored 150 and above for National Diploma (ND) Full Time and 160 for B. Sc. Degree (100 Level) in affiliation with University of Nigeria, Nsukka in the 2023/2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). All direct entry B.Sc Degree (200 level) candidates are also required to apply appropriately on the College Portal. However, all candidates who have chosen Yabatech as 2nd Choice Institution are required to change it to First Choice on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Portal to be eligible for admission. All candidates must not be less than 16 years old by October 31, 2023. All candidates who do not meet the age requirement are advised in their own interest not to apply.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

Applicants are to pay processing fee of Two thousand Naira (N2,000.00) (excluding result verification fee and any transaction charges). Payment can be made online or in the bank. The College does not accept cash payment.

 

Candidates should visit the College website at www.yabatech.edu.ng. Click on “POST UTME SCREENING 2023/2024” and follow the instructions to complete the application process appropriately.


INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

Candidates are advised to supply correct data/O’level details on the portal as they will be responsible for any error made during registration. Non-compliance with this directive will result in disqualification.

Inconsistency in name or picture on photo card will not be accepted by the College and may lead to disqualification of concerned candidates. Candidates’ names on their O’level Certificates, UTME results and other registration documents must be the same.

Newly restructured programmes in Nigerian varsities, FULL LIST

 The National Universities Commission recently unveiled a newly restructured curriculum for Nigerian universities.



The acting Executive Secretary of the commission, Dr. Chris Maiyaki, during a meeting with stakeholders last week, reiterated that the implementation of the new curriculum will commence in September 2023.


According to Maiyaki, the new curriculum CCMAS would make up 70 per cent of the curriculum while the university decides what to include in the remaining 30 per cent.

The new curriculum as analysed by The PUNCH means that universities in the country will officially have 17 disciplines of faculties namely Administration and Management; Agriculture; Allied Health Sciences; Architecture; Arts; Basic Medical Sciences; Communications and Media Studies; Computing; Education; Engineering and Technology; Environmental Sciences; Law; Medicine and Dentistry; Pharmaceutical Sciences; Sciences; Social Sciences and Veterinary Medicine.


Notable points to look out for include the unbundling of mass communications to create a distinct discipline of Communications comprising degree programmes in Advertising, Broadcasting, Development Communication Studies, Film and Multimedia, Information and Media Studies, Journalism and Media Studies, Mass Communication, Public Relations and Strategic Communication; Agriculture was unbundled into programmes in its contributing components of B.Sc Agricultural Economics, B.Sc. Animal Science, B.Sc. Crop Science and B.Sc. Soil Science;


The unbundling of Architecture and introduction of Architecture as a new discipline with programmes like Architecture, Architectural Technology, Furniture Design, Interior Architecture Design, Landscape Architecture and Naval architecture;



The split of the Basic Medical Sciences discipline into two – Basic Medical
